The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Kenneth Nkosi, Rapulana Seiphemo, Jodie Whittaker, Zandile Msutwana
The loyal, committed and very decent Elvis leaves Johannesburg to pick up his best friend and best man Tumi in Durban. The two will then journey on to Cape Town to begin rehearsals for Elvis's wedding to the beautiful Ayanda. But things don't always go according to plan.
Director, Jann Turner's South African film is a road trip comedy that is indeed witty, charming and sweet. I don't really agree with "The Hangover" comparison it has gotten. Sure the film is about mishaps and it contains some very funny moments but these are characters we can all relate to in one way or another so while some of the obstacles along the way are unbelievable the basic story and characters are realistic and believable. The film is about Elvis who is getting married. He hops a bus from Johannesburg to Durban where he meets up with his best man, Tumi. From there the two must travel to Cape Town where the lovely Ayunda is awaiting their arrival. You know right off the bat that things are not going to go their way and when the two men get lost in the Eastern Cape and they reluctantly allow British visitor Rose to hitch a ride with them it seems things might go from bad to worst in a hurry. Will they make it in time for the wedding? It certainly doesn't look good at times but I will let everyone find out for themselves when you pick up this simple yet highly enjoyable romantic comedy. The main leads here are amazing including Kenneth Nkosi as Elvis and Rapulana Seiphemo as Tumi who are fantastic as the two leading men. The supporting cast does a wonderful job as well, there is no weak link here at all. The productions values are great as well and the music and pace of the film keeps everyone moving at a brisk, lively pace.
"White Wedding" is a film about many things which includes, love, commitment, friendship and fighting through tough situations in order to get to the one you love at any cost. This is a film about what it's like to be South African but at the same time it is one we can all relate to. A feel-good film that has you smiling all the way through. I had a great time watching the film and recommend it to all fan's of the genre. The film is presented in English with Spanish and English subtitles. There are no other special features on the DVD but that doesn't matter because this gem is worth the price all by itself. You can order the DVD HERE and the Blu-ray HERE.
