A seemingly perfect family looks to fix their problems with the help of Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman.
"War Room" tells the story of Tony and Elizabeth Jordan, a married couple with one child. Elizabeth works in real estate and her husband is a pharmaceutical salesman. From the outside they look like the perfect American family but there are problems within. One of the problems has to do with Elizabeth helping out her married sister by giving her money without talking it over first with her husband. He doesn't like her sister's husband and says that he is a lazy loser that doesn't want to work. The other problem seems to stem from the couple not communicating or spending quality time together. Work obviously keeps them busy and at night both are tired but the two are neglecting their marriage and both are guilty of not being a part of their daughter's life as much as they should be. When Elizabeth visits Miss Clara who is looking to sell her home she makes a comment about her marriage and Miss Clara immediately takes it upon herself to help Elizabeth save her marriage through God and prayer. When talking about her home Miss Clara mentions her favorite room in the house, the War Room which is an old closet she cleaned out and placed a chair in. There are papers on the wall with prayers written on them. It is where she goes to fight her battles through prayers to God.
Elizabeth seems skeptical at first but when she finds out her husband was seen out with another woman she decides to give her own War Room and God a try in hopes to save her marriage and family.
There is a lot more to the story but I do not want to ruin the film for those wanting to see it so I am not going to go into any more plot details here. I will instead talk about the film itself, I want to start by saying the film was Written by Alex Kendrick and Stephen Kendrick and directed by Alex Kendrick. These two talented men are responsible for several other Christian films such as, Fireproof, Courageous and Mom's Night Out to name a few. "War Room" is already a huge hit at the box office, it opened at number one and has been rolling along ever since.
I really enjoy the film, it is filled with characters you immediately feel for and many people out there will be able to relate to some or all of the Jordon's problems. And then there is the character of Miss Clara. What a strong and caring character who also supplies a good bit of the film's humor. Now do not get me wrong the film has a serious tone for the most part but there are moments of comedy though-out to lighten the mood at times. And while I am on the subject of characters let me mention how terrific the cast is. Priscilla C. Shirer and T.C. Stallings both give strong and emotional performances and Karen Abercrombie is a delight to watch as Miss Clara. She steals every scene she is in. The rest of the supporting cast did an amazing job as well.
War Room is a heart breaking, touching and often funny film that everyone can relate to because we have all had some problems in the past. "War Room" will give hope to anyone that has fallen and needs help in picking themselves back up again. It's strong emphasis on God and Family is a big reason for its success. So many people are looking for guidance today and this film provides hope and the means to make their lives better through prayer. I highly recommend seeing this film today.
