The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
A young couple looking for the perfect home find themselves trapped in a mysterious labyrinth-like neighborhood of identical houses.
Tom and Gemma (Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots) are looking for the perfect home. When a strange real-estate agent takes them to Yonder, a mysterious suburban neighborhood of identical houses, Tom and Gemma can’t leave quick enough. But when they try to exit the labyrinth-like housing development, each road takes them back to where they started. Soon, they realize their search for a dream home has plunged them into a terrifying nightmare.
I think most people are going to describe this as a strange film and indeed they would be at least partly right. 'Vivarium' is a mixture for things including a Mystery, Sci-Fi, Thriller and Drama. It is one of those films that gets more and more inside your head as it moves along. After getting stuck inside Yonder they couple receive mysterious boxes that are full of food and other items the need like toothpaste.
And then they receive a box with a real live baby inside and the label reads...raise him and you will be released. This is no ordinary baby, he grows to look like an 8 year old in a short period of time. And he mocks what the say and screams when wanting to eat which is disturbing and terrifying at the same time.
The cast in this creepy tale all give great performances including Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots as Tom and Emma. Senan Jennings and Eanna Hardwicke are both excellent as well as the younger and older boy. I loved the setting where every house looks the same and there is a thick atmosphere of isolation and dread.
I am not going to go into any more plot details so not to ruin the film for those waiting to see. Director, Lorcan Finnegan has crafted an original and almost hypnotic film that will stay with you long after it is over. Vivarium will be in theaters, on VOD and Digital HD on March 27, 2020. I had a fun time watching this disturbing, chilling and highly entertaining film.
