In THE TAX COLLECTOR, David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), are “tax collectors” for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs’ illicit dealings. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, the business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters more to him than anything else: his family.

'The Tax Collector' tells the story of David and Creeper who both work for the crime lord, Wizard. When an old rival arrives back in town from Mexico no one is safe, not even David's family.

'The Tax Collector' received a lot of reviews when it was released in theaters and on demand. I noticed a lot of the poor reviews focused on bad writing and bad acting but considering the film was done on a limited budget and with mostly no name actors I enjoyed the film.

I could sit here and pick the story and acting apart too but I felt the script wasn't as bad as some thought. It is a crime story but it brings some fresh ideas to the table and the acting while not great but it wasn't bad either. The highlight of the film was Shia LaBeouf as Creeper but the rest of the cast stood their ground.

As far as the script goes you can say the characters were not developed enough but then you are talking about most of the films Hollywood produces. I felt the film could have used a bit more action especially early on in the film but the violence that is in the film is brutal enough to get your attention.

'The Tax Collector' was written and directed by David Ayer (Fury, Suicide Squad) and it doesn't stand up well against his other films but he had a much higher budget and more star power for those films. I think Director, David Ayer and his cast and crew did a fine job considering what they all had to work with. If you like a good crime film then I recommend avoiding the negative reviews and check this out for yourselves.

RLJE Films will release THE TAX COLLECTOR on DVD, on Blu-ray and on UHD/Blu-ray SteelBook exclusively at Best Buy.
