The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Robert Sheehan, Dev Patel, Zoë Kravitz, Robert Patrick, Kyra Sedgwick
Vincent (Robert Sheehan), a young man with Tourette’s Syndrome, just lost his mom. As his symptoms get worse, his dad (Robert Patrick), a frustrated politician, sends him to a behavioral clinic run by an unconventional doctor (Kyra Sedgwick). But Vincent made his mom a promise, and with the help of a rebellious anorexic (Zoë Kravitz) and his withdrawn OCD roommate (Dev Patel), the three embark on a life-changing race to the sea that includes car theft, shoplifting, fights, self-discovery, and maybe finding a new way to live.
"The Road Within" tells the story of three young adults, Vincent who has Tourette's Syndrome, Marie who is anorexic and Alex who is OCD. The three meet at a experimental behavioral health clinic. They do not get along at first but when Marie finds out that Vincent has never been to the ocean she steals the keys to the doctor's car and the three of them head out on an adventurous road trip.
The story is very simple but it is the characters and the cast that bring them to life that makes this a very good film. Robert Sheehan as Vincent, Dev Patel as Alex and Zoë Kravitz as Marie are all terrific and they all play off each other perfectly. Writer/Director, Gren Wells tells a tale full of drama, comedy and adventure while remaining respectful to all those out there that suffer from these problems.
The film might tell the tale of a road trip to the beach but it is much more than that. This is a tale of finding oneself and dealing with your problems instead of running away from them. I enjoyed this film more than I expected to and I couldn't help rooting for these three wonderful people as Vincent's father and their doctor hunt them down. If you like a good drama with a mixture of comedy then I recommend checking this film out. There is definitely a lot to like here including the cast and supporting cast that includes Robert Patrick and Kyra Sedgwick. Available on DVD and Blu-ray with Special Features that include:
