Cast: Golden Brooks, Keith David, DB Woodside, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Rochelle Aytes
From the director of Angels in the Outfield comes the incredible true story of the underdog foreign Little League team who inspired two nations. Clifton Collins Jr. (Star Trek) heads an all-star line-up of some of Hollywood’s brightest young stars as Cesar, who returns to his native Monterey, Mexico after his major league career is cut short. Moises Arias (Hannah Montana), Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Ryan Ochoa (iCarly) costar as impoverished baseball-loving kids who recruit him to coach their rag-tag team. Together, they beat the odds and overcome hardships and bigotry to compete in the 1957 Little League World Series.
You can call "The Perfect Game" predictable and you would be right but among all the family films out this year this one stands out as one of the best. The story is simple, it starts off with Cesar who decides to head back to his native Mexico after his major league coaching career gets cut short. Shortly after arriving he is introduced to a group of young kids who just love to play the game of baseball even though they don't even have proper balls and bats. After convincing Cesar to coach them they get signed up for the little league world series and head into the U.S. with little hope of making it very far, what happened after that made baseball history and and earned them the name "Little Giants." Like I said before you know what is going to happen but that doesn't take anything away from the pure enjoyment of getting there. The film succeeds on every level but it's the cast that really shines here, from talented veterans like Cheech Marin, Lou Gossett Jr. and Clifton Collins Jr to the wonderful child actors, this is acting at it's finest. If you know the story of this amazing group of young boys from Mexico then you already know just how big a deal this was but if you never heard about it till now then you're in for a once in a life time, amazing story. These under-sized heroes showed that with hard work, dedication and believing in one's self can achieve. "The Perfect Game" is a heart warming film that the entire family can enjoy together. The title of the film gives the story away but that isn't going to matter because you are going to be cheering these amazing kids on till the final pitch.
