The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Tal Hymans, Alex Snow, Tara Jay, and Elke Hinrichsen
Director: Jon Cohen
A group of friends that go on a holiday to St. Joseph's Guesthouse, unaware that it was the site of accused witchcraft and a sacrifice of an innocent girl centuries before. They soon realize that it may be haunted by the spirit of The Hanged Girl.
Based on a folklore legend 'The Hanged Girl' tells the story of from the 1800's during a small pox outbreak. A young woman finds a convent and asks for help for her sick village but is taken as a with and as hung. Which to modern day as we meet, Dr. Lily Khan, her fiance Kit, his sister Rachel and a group of friends attend a getaway at the same convent before the couple get married.
Besides the fact that they share stories of what happened there and it being the location the story here doesn't really have anything to do with the girl who was hung. The film is more a drama thriller than a horror film that focuses more on friendships, past histories and even racism. This may or may not be a problem for those who might be expected a supernatural horror or it might not be. The film is slow moving for the first hour with mostly a lot of flirting going on and arguing. But after that the story begins to toss in a number of twists and turns that make it a much more engaging film.
Writer/Director, Jon Cohen does a good job at keeping interesting even during its first hour. Like any movie you are going to feel differently about each character so some you might feel good about while others not so much. The cast including, Tal Hymans, Alex Snow, Tara Jay, and Elke Hinrichsen.
'The Hanged Girl' may not be the film it is advertised to be and there isn't any real ghosts haunting people it still entertains with its twisty tale and good performances. The film shows what pure evil can be in the form of humans, I am not going to go into any more details so not to ruin the surprises that await you. I enjoyed the film more as it moved a long and also liked its ending hidden in the credits. So if you like a good drama/thriller then I recommend checking out the film.
