The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
A shocking revelation turns a teenage boy’s world upside down in this chilling look at the evil that can lurk below even the most wholesome surface. Tyler Burnside (Charlie Plummer) is a Boy Scout, a volunteer at his local church, and the dutiful son of an upstanding, community leader dad (Dylan McDermott). Only one thing troubles the quiet Kentucky town he lives in: the unsolved murders—in which ten women were brutally tortured and killed by a psychopath known as Clovehitch—that rocked the community more than a decade ago. When Tyler discovers a cache of disturbing images in his father’s possession, he begins to suspect that the man he trusts most in the world may be Clovehitch—and that his deadly rampage may not be over. With unrelenting tension, director Duncan Skiles crafts a picture-perfect vision of the all-American family—and then piece by piece rips it to shreds.
'The Clovehitch Killer' tells the story of Don Burnside who seems to be a stand up guy to everyone in his community but on the inside he might be harboring a terrifying secret. He does contracting work in his community, is the Boy Scout leader for which his boy is a member of and he is a god fearing man.
But, he just might be The Clovehitch Killer that terrorized the community 10 years ago. One day his son sneaks into their shed in the back yard to see what it is their father goes out there for all the time and he finds things that could be clues that his dad is indeed the serial killer. He then confronts a girl at school who is obsessed with the Clovehitch Killer and together they try and put the pieces together.
'The Clovehitch Killer' is a slow burn serial killer flick that doesn't reply on lots of violence and blood to get the audience engaged. Instead it relies on its story and characters to draw the audience in. As far as serial killer movies go this is about as tame a movie as you are going to find. I have seen Television movies that were more graphic than this one but they did not have the suspense, mystery and tension that this one has. They also did not have the cast that this one has.
Dylan McDermott is fantastic as the all-Americana dad who may or may not be the killer. Charlie Plummer is also amazing as his son who suspects his dad. And the rest of the supporting cast all did a great job as well. Director, Duncan Skiles did a great job keeping the film moving at a nice pace while constantly drawing the audience in and keeping them on the edge.
'The Clovehitch Killer' is a thought-provoking serial killer film that keeps you guessing for a long time before the killer is actually revealed. For the first hour you are left guessing between two possible suspects. I had a good time watching this, I felt it was a realistic look into the mind of a crazed killer who walks among us never giving any signs of something wrong. 'The Clovehitch Killer' is a character-driven serial killer movie that gets in your head and under your skin and it leaves a lasting effect. If you like this kind of thriller then I highly recommend checking it out when it opens in Theaters and on VOD 11/16/18. Released by IFC Films
