Gifted defense attorney Ray Shekar (Sachin Mehta) finds himself in the middle of a twisted game of who-done-it when his curiosity prompts him to take on the case of Allyson Daugherty (Kristina Klebe), a socialite accused of murdering her husband. Trying to maintain his spotless acquittal record, Ray is determined to uncover the truth about his client's guilt or innocence, but he must keep one step ahead of a persistent police detective (Michael Raynor), who begins to suspect the troubling secret behind Ray's success and sees the Daugherty case as an opportunity to settle an old score.
THE ADVOCATE tells the story of Ray Shekar, a defense attorney who is very good at getting people off on charges against them. He never wants to know if his client committed the crime or not but he has a secret of his own locked away, one a local detective is getting close to finding out about.
This is a solid thriller that sends some strong messages about morals but besides those messages it is also one hell of a crime thriller that has so many twists and turns it would make Hitchcock himself very proud. The film is very hard to talk about without giving away any of its secrets, there is so much going on in the film and to talk about them here would only ruin it for those wanting to see it so I am going to avoid spoilers.
One thing I would like to talk about is the acting, the entire cast did a fantastic job playing their roles which make it very hard to pick out any one actor but if I had to choose one I would say that Sachin Mehta was the scene stealer. Sachin is incredible as Ray, his performance is so convincing you will wonder why you never heard of him before. Other stand-out performances came from kristina klebe who plays Ray's latest client who is accused of murdering her husband and Michael Raynor who plays the nosey detective.
THE ADVOCATE got great press and won numerous awards when it was shown in theaters and it is sure to do very well on home video with strong word of mouth. I found it to be a suspenseful thriller with lots of tension and mystery about it. I have not seen a good legal thriller in some time but this one knocks it out of the park. Before I close out this review I want to give a shout out to Director, Tamas Harangi who did a fantastic job creating such an intense and thought-provoking story. This is a must own thriller, the film sucks you in right from the start and it takes you deeper and deeper in as the film moves along. I cannot recommend this enough.
