The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Maeve Quinlan, Abbie Cobb, Cassi Thomson, Augie Duke, Davida Williams
Cassie, 17, works as a teller at the bank where her mother, Joyce, is the branch manager. When the bank is robbed, Cassie is taken hostage. She soon finds out that the bank robbers are teenage girls, one of whom is her best friend, Abbie. In this propulsive real-time, ticking clock thriller, as the girls are on the run from the police, we learn that the real motivation behind the robbery was not greed but to raise ransom for Abbie’s kidnapped father.
"Teenage Bank Heist" originally aired on the Lifetime channel. When I began watching this I quickly realized that this was something different for the channel in that most of their movies are about a relationship gone bad or something similar but this was something completely different. The synopsis above pretty much tells you what the film is about so I am not going to give any more details so not to spoil the film but I will say there is a double-crossing going on and a few twists as well along the way. The film is a pretty exciting thriller that keeps you engaged the entire time as you wait for the outcome and fate of these teenage girls.
One of the things that really stood out to me was the cast, each and everyone did a great job playing their roles, to pick out one girl would not be fair to the rest because this was definitely an ensemble piece and everyone was terrific. Director/Co-writer, Doug Campbell did a terrific job telling the story while keeping the film moving at a fast pace. Movies that are made for Television can be hit or miss so for me to say that this was an entertaining film from start to finish is saying a lot. Also the fact that it was based on a true story made the film that more intriguing even if there were a few things that happened in the film I couldn't buy.
The film isn't going to win any major awards but it is an enjoyable thrill ride that keeps you wanting more and entertained all the way to the end. This is certainly one of the better made for TV movies I have seen in awhile so if you like a good heist film or thriller in general then I recommend checking this out.
