The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Lloyd Kaufman, David C. Hayes, Brian Carr, Josiah Spargo, Tara Carlton, Scarlet Fry, Randy Robinson, Dineta Williams, Stephen Kessen
Just when you thought it was safe to relax and let out your breath, the evil genius of Scarlet Fry (Walter Ruether III) makes itself known once more in the shape of Scream Machine’s five bloody twisted tales: “Sledgehammer,” “Cannibal Pen Pals,” “April Fool’s Party,” “Septic Shock,” and “Deadly Indie Drive-In.” Each one featuring the three M’s of horror: madness, murder, and mayhem; guaranteed to make you faint, puke, and quite possibly soil your pants!
Scream Machine’s host segments, which introduce Scarlet Fry as Dr. Fry, take place after the Ebola plague wipes out Earth’s entire population. The two exceptions being Dr. Fry and his new assistant Dr. Graves, Dr. “Head”ley Graves (Paul C. Hemmes). Known for bringing to life such cult classics as: Horrorama, Death By VHS, Nightmare Alley, and Junk Food Horror Fest; Writer/Producer/Director Walter Ruether III teams up with filmmaker Paul C. Hemmes to make his latest and quite possibly greatest horror anthology to date. Featuring the acting talents of Lloyd Kaufman (The Toxic Avenger), Sandra E. Williams (Ted 2), and David C. Hayes (A Man Called Nereus).
80's Anthologies are alive and well thanks to Director Scarlet Fry (Walter Ruether III). Known for his no budget horror Fry is back and at his best with "Scream Machine." Five very different tales of horror play out they are as follows:
SLEDGEHAMMER: A revenge tale about a pitcher the scouts are interested because of his killer fastball.
CANNIBAL PEN PALS: Tells the story of a lonely husband who is sick and tired of his abusive wife. But what she does not know is that he is sending letters to Dahmer in prison. He hopes to one day be with him or perhaps he has even more sinister plans.
APRIL FOOLS PARTY: A group of druggies heading over to their dealer's house decide to play a game of April Fools on him with deadly results.
SEPTIC TANK: A man is knocked out and placed inside a septic tank with no chance of escape by his cheating wife and the man she is having an affair with, his doctor. He may not be able to escape but he will still have his revenge. DEADLY INDIE DRIVE-IN : Some true drive-in madness from a woman who is off her meds.
With any Anthology there are going to be hit and misses but even I enjoyed every story here. Combined they are sick, demented, twisted and extremely frightening. "Scream Machine" is not for picky mainstream movie goers because of the film's budget but that is their loss. Fan's of Independent cinema will love it so be sure to check it out. "Scream Machine" is a disturbing, highly entertaining Anthology that takes us back to when horror was actually fun. Seeing it is the only option.
