Miranda (Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl) is a dedicated nurse, an exquisite cake maker and an impeccable friend. But when she agrees to a blind date and the wrong man comes to her door…her perfect world is shattered by a brutal assault. Even with her attacker, William (Shiloh Fernandez, Evil Dead), is convicted and locked away for the crime, Miranda can’t overcome the fear and trauma enough to put her orderly life back together. Desperate for closure, she reaches out to William – first through letters, then prison visits – and slowly builds a relationship with him. But when William is paroled and comes looking for her, Miranda seizes the opportunity to exact revenge.

"Return to Sender" tells the story of Miranda, a nurse who seems too busy working to take time for herself. But when she agrees to a blind date, her life is changed forever. On the day of her blind date she receives a knock on the door and she assumes it is her date even though he is early. After letting him in she quickly finds out that it is not her date and instead it is a someone else who then rapes her and flees. It is not long before the man is arrested and convicted of rape but Miranda is left scarred in more than one way. She begins having problems with work and life in general. So she decides to begin writing her attacker and then visiting him in prison to build his trust for later when he is paroled which will give her the perfect opportunity to get her revenge.

I really want to like this film a lot even before watching it because on paper it sounds like a good thriller and because of its amazing cast. But as it moved a lot I found it to be a bit disturbing especially how Miranda began to act. I am not going to go into plot details so not to ruin the film here but she is not as innocent as one might think. Things that she does and did set off an alarm.

I think the film's biggest strength is the cast, Rosamund Pike gives an amazing performance as Miranda and Nick Nolte is brilliant as always as her father. I wish he had a bigger but he makes the most of his supporting role. "Return to Sender" is film that missed the mark, I liked it but I also feel it could have been so much better. There is just too many strange things happening, I understand her motives but the way she carried them out was bit disturbing to me. I also felt the ending was left a bit too open. I like films that leave a bit to the imagination but I though they could have done things with the ending a lot better.

I liked the film but with a cast such as this I was expecting way more, maybe that was my fault but I was left a bit disappointed. "Return to Sender" is available on DVD, you can order it HERE. I do recommend checking it out but do so as a rental first.
