1908. CHIEF (Mario Van Peebles) returns from years of hiding in Mexico to claim stolen gold hidden in the hills of Montana. In his quest, he reunites an ensemble of fresh & familiar faces - together they fight off ANGEL, whose rationale to the gold leaves a trail of deception and dead bodies.
Writer/Director/Actor, Mario Van Peebles is back on the big screen with his new film, 'Outlaw Posse.' The film takes place in 1908 and its about one man's mission to get back what was promised to but never given to the ones who suffered including Black and Native Americans. Peebles uses several real life characters in the to help emphasize the wrong doings including the boxer Jack Johnson and Stagecoach Mary. Peebles plays Cheif, a man who is wanted dead or alive who decides to come out of hiding and get a team together to go retrieve gold that was hidden in a mine 11 years before to give most of it to to those whom were cheated from it to begin with.
The film itself is a bit uneven as there seems to be too many subplots going on at times but the film remains entertaining and it gets better as it moves along. One of the film's biggest strengths is its supporting cast which includes, Amber Reign Smith, Neil McDonough, Jake Manley, Allen Payne, Cam Gigandet, M. Emmet Walsh, with Edward James Olmos, Cedric the Entertainer and Whoopi Goldberg. Some have bigger roles than others but each make the film better by their appearances.
Mario Van Peebles is no stranger to making westerns and 'Outlaw Posse' is another enjoyable one with a great cast, interesting characters and the right amount of action you keep you entertained. The film will be in select theaters on March 1st so be sure to check if it is available in your area and if so be sure to go check it out.
I had a good time watching 'Outlaw Posse' and I gladly recommend to all western fans and fans of the cast.
