The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: TYLER HOECHLIN- Road to Perdition, Hall Pass AGNES BRUCHNER- Blood and Chocolate, Murder by Numbers DODIE BROWNE- The Mist, Texas Chainsaw 3D WILLIAM SADLER- The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile
A crime drama that takes place in a small East Texas town. Kaleb, a young rodeo bull fighter, struggles with the realities of small town life. His troubles are made worse when he discovers the rodeo he works for is using the bulls to traffic drugs between Texas and Mexico and more people in his little sleepy texas town are involved than he could have imagined.
"Open Gate" seems like any other film about the rodeo and dealing with life in a small town but it turns out to be a bit more than that. Kaleb and his girlfriend are having a rough patch over his profession, his getting hurt all the time and the fact that they need more money to survive but what makes matters worse is that Kaleb suspects that the rodeo is using the bulls to smuggle drugs in from Mexico. Finding out the truth could get Kaleb killed and finding out how deep the corruption runs might prove to be shocking.
"Open Gate" is a pretty entertaining crime drama with a good amount of rodeo action, some mystery and some pretty good suspense as well. Finding out or suspecting the rodeo of doing these illegal activities is not that much a mystery but finding out just who is and is not involved in helping them or aiding in covering it all up is and it is that part of the story that keeps you engaged the entire time.
The cast is another reason why the film is so enjoyable, everyone in the film did a great job at playing their roles but William Sadler, Tyler Hoechlin and Agnes Bruckner really took the film up another level with their fantastic performances. Production wise the film looks and sounds great and it has some beautiful scenery in it as well.
I wouldn't call the film great but I will say that it is a solid and highly enjoyable one that engages the audience and it's cast does a great job playing their characters which makes it very easy to have feelings for them in one way or another. If you like drama and crime then I recommend checking this mix of both out, I'm sure you will find it to be as entertaining as I did.
