The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Anna Shields, Rachel Finninger, Grant Schumacher
A young woman goes searching for answers after her friend mysteriously vanishes in Whitehall, NY, an Adirondack town known for its Bigfoot sightings. She quickly learns that hiding in the woods is an evil more sinister than she could ever imagine.
As the film opens we see two young ladies Two women driving down deserted road in the middle of the night when suddenly something jumps in front of the car and they hit it. At first it looks like some sort of animal as it lay on the ground, but when a much bigger one steps out of the woods walking on two feet the ladies realize they are in big trouble. They both jump back in the car and speed away to a house just up the road, but when they get out of the car one of the ladies don't make it to safety in time.
Several years have passed and we meet Jamie and Sylvia, two friends who still mourn the loss of their friend, Haley who was the young lady that went missing along the deserted road. Jamie is a Bigfoot researcher and has noticed that Haley wasn't the only girl that has gone missing in the last few years.
Jamie spies an ad from someone by the name of Alex who is once again looking for a ride to that same area. Jamie plans on taking the offer in hopes of finding out what happened to their friend but when he gets sick Sylvia decides to fill in. What starts off as a cautious adventure soon turn to a closer relationship between Sylvia and Alex. But things may not be what they seem.
The film's trailer gets the flow flowing and its artwork will get every horror fan excited for some major Bigfoot action but the film isn't your run of the mill Bigfoot movie with all kinds of action, blood and gore. Instead there are a few things at play here. Sure Bigfoot is in the movie and he does appear menacing but he isn't the only story line going so he is not in the film as much as you might think.
Now that could be a good thing or a bad one depending on who is watching the movie but for me the film and complete story was original and refreshing. I am not going to sit here and spoil the film for those wanting to see and I recommend not reading any spoiler reviews before sitting now to watch it. But what I will say is 'Monstrous' is a well written, horror/thriller that gets your attention right from the start. It then settles in and introduces us to the main characters and it gets us up to speed as far as the story goes.
From there the film is a mix of genres that creates all kinds of emotions as well as a lot of suspense, mystery and tension as it makes its way to a thrilling end.
'Monstrous' was directed by Bruce Wemple and the story was written by Anna Shields who also stars in the film as Sylvia. Anna Shields did a terrific job in the film as did Rachel Finninger who plays Alex and Grant Schumacher who plays Jamie.
The production values are excellent and the Bigfoot is huge, menacing and out right terrifying.
'Monstrous' is an Independent gem that deserves a huge audience so be sure to check it out when it comes to On Demand and DVD August 11th.
