The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Rick Schroder, Jon Gries, Jason Spisak, Rick Hoffman, Bart Johnson
Skip delves into the mysteries of an old locker. His sage supervisor recounts chilling tales that underscore the importance of making the right choice. The stories come into play when Skip faces a life-or-death decision of his own.
"Locker 13" tells the story of Skip, a parolee who takes a job as the night cleaning man at a wild west theme park. His boss Archie gives him a tour of the place while explaining to him what his chores are. Archie is also the preaching type so he talks to Skip about making the right choices in life and taking responsibility for one's actions. To make his point more interesting Archie tells Skip four stories which help explain what he means.
With each set-up comes a little story, think of "Locker 13" as being an offspring of the "Twilight Zone" and you get an idea where the film is headed. The four stories are as follow:
"Down and Out"- A down and out boxer (Ricky Schroder, NYPD Blue, Silver Spoons, The Champ) is given the opportunity to become a real golden gloves killer.
"The Author"- An assassin (Rick Hoffman, Suits, Battleship) kidnaps three people in order to find out who hired him for his latest hit.
"The Byzantine Order"- A new recruit (Bart Johnson, High School Musical) is initiated into a lodge of fez-wearing businessmen where hazing can take a malevolent turn.
"Suicide Club"- A member of a suicide club (Jason Marsden, Boy Meets World, White Squall) introduces real fear into a man about to jump to his death.
"Locker 13" did not knock it out of the park like I had hope but it was still very enjoyable. One reason for that was the incredible cast that included, Rick Schroder, Jon Gries, Jason Spisak, Rick Hoffman, Bart Johnson. I enjoyed all four stories but my two favorite were Down and Out and The Byzantine Order plus I enjoyed the story of Skip and what choices he is left to make.
"Locker 13" is a mixed genre film, I would not call it a horror film but I would say there is traces of mystery, sci-fi and fantasy in it. Some of what happens is creepy and there is a good amount of tension and suspense as well as a good bit of humor tossed in as well.
So over-all I am not sure this warrants more than one watch but it was certainly entertaining the first time around so if you like this kind of Anthology film then I recommend checking it out.
