17-year-old Eli (Spencer Daniels, Star Trek) has just moved with his family deep into the backwoods of Kentucky to work on the isolated farm of the town recluse, Waylon (Brad Dourif, Halloween I & II). Inexplicably drawn into the strange forest that lies beyond the farm, Eli encounters Amanda (Spencer Daniels, Jack Reacher), a beautiful, mysterious girl who captivates him, body and soul. But when Eli discovers decaying bodies hanging from the trees, he realizes that both the forest and Amanda are harboring some very dark secrets. Suddenly, Eli is living in a waking nightmare where the lines between life and death are scrawled in blood, betrayal and terror from beyond the grave.
"Last Kind Words" is a ghost story that has a lot going for it. Right from the start, before the story even begins you notice how amazing the sound and cinematography is. Then there is the story and a terrific, original and clever one it is. And to top it all off the cast is amazing. Brad Dourif is terrific as always but he is not alone here, Spencer Daniels and Alexia Fast are also excellent as is the rest of the supporting cast.
I am not going to talk too much about the story because the synopsis written above is all you need to know going into it. But I can say that the story is engaging, full of atmosphere and at times very creepy. The ending is one that will stay with you long after the credits begin to roll. "Last Kind Words" is a film that doesn't need any scare tactics of loads of blood to terrify its audience. Its cast and unique ghost tale make this one of the best horror films I have seen in some time.
