The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Duff McKagan, Slash, Benny Urquidez, Nikki Sixx
The lifetime story of Guns N' Roses bass player, Duff McKagan. How he struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, and overcame it. Talks about the real challenges in everyday life, his childhood, and how the band made it big.
Most people know Duff McKagan as the bass player in the band Guns N' Roses but after watching "It's So Easy and Other Lies" you will find out a whole lot more about him, mainly as the person.
The film starts off with Duff talking about his childhood a bit and how he first got into music. It would be years before he made it into Guns N' Roses and he would be in a lot of bands as well including the "Vains" which seemed to be a bright spot in his young career.
The massive amount of heroin in his hometown of Seattle would cause Duff to head out to L.A. and seek employment there. It wasn't long before he read an ad from Slash about a bass player needed so Duff took the chance and Guns N' Roses was born. The film goes to tell how the band formed and how they received their first record contract, it also talks about them touring with Motley Crew and Aerosmith as they slowly became the talk of the music industry. But the film isn't just about becoming famous and living the dream, it also tells the story of Duff's alcohol and drug problems. After his failed marriage Duff began drinking more and more and then he started using drugs with it which sent him on a downhill spiral until one day he woke up deathly sick and had to be hospitalized over it.
The film then continues on as it shows Duff's recovery and his new lease on life when he meets the love of his life and they get married and go on to have two girls. "It's So Easy and Other Lies" is a well-done documentary that covers most of Duff's life up until now. The part of his life that involved drugs and getting straight was the best part to me because it was the most personal side of him.
Fans’ of Guns N' Roses are sure to love the film but I almost think many will also enjoy the film that may not be fans of the group or their music because it gives you an inside look at the lifestyle and more importantly an inside look at the man himself which of course makes the film very personal and I think anyone can relate to that. "It's So Easy and Other Lies" is based on Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan’s New York Times best-selling memoir. The film chronicles Duff's rise to fame, his near fatal struggles with addiction, and his remarkable life transformation.
The authorized documentary also features exclusive archival footage and interviews from Duff's closest friends including fellow GNR band member Slash, PEARL JAM guitarist Mike McCready, and MOTLEY CRUE bassist Nikki Sixx.
The film is playing in Theaters now so be sure to check it out, it is both engaging and entertaining.
