The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Joe Estevez, Derick Fage, Brianna Barnes, Jasmine Elizabeth Bowen
A robot created by the military falls into the hands of a group of mercenaries. It's up to the son of the man who created the robot to stop the mercenaries before they sell the robot to a foreign power.
"Iron Soldier" is a low budget effort that's a cross between "Iron Man" with "Robocop." The story is about a high tech robot that is created by the military but when a group of mercenaries steal the robot it's up to one man to get it back and with a little help from his son he just might succeed. Director, Brett Kelly was smart to not go over board on showing the robot or using it in battle since it is cheesy looking which is expected here from an Indie film. Instead he lets the humans do battle and there's plenty of gunfire and action that makes for some brainless fun amd it takes up most of the film's time. After seeing the film's trailer I didn't have much hope but it turned out to be a better film than I expected mainly do to what I mentioned above.
The acting was hit or miss in the film but I thought Derick Fage did a very good job in as the film's lead and it's always nice seeing Joe Estevez in a movie. The film's short run time also helps it, there's no wasted time here since it gets right to the point and the action lasts the pretty much all the way to the end. "Iron Soldier" isn't a great film, hell to many it might not even be a good one but it at least knows it's limitations and ends up being at least an entertaining flick.
