The television crew of the "Scary Antics" hidden camera show sets up a disturbed young man for a practical joke, but the joke is on them when heads roll.
"HazMat" tells the story of three friends who are tired of their buddy Jacob and his obsession with an old warehouse that he claims is haunted by the ghosts of its workers that died years ago from a chemical fire. Jacob's father also worked at the plant and died as well. The three friends contact a TV show called "Scary Antics" that specializes in pranking people. His friends hope that this prank will finally bring Jacob back to earth and stop his ridiculous behavior over it all. Jacob is a bit unstable to begin with but when the practical joke begins he goes totally over the edge and now his friends and the TV crew is stuck inside the warehouse with Hazmat and their only hope is to escape alive.
"Hazmat" is Director, Lou Simon's second feature film and I had the pleasure of reviewing her first film, "The Awakened" as well which was a fantastic little film itself but with "HazMat" Lou has become a major player in the horror genre. The film wastes no time getting to the killing then you find out that it was a prank on "Scary Antics." From there the film slows down so it can set up the story and introduce the characters. It does a great job at doing both, the story is pretty simple really but the characters are not. Each one is well developed which is important so that the audience can have some sort of feeling towards them. The film clocks in at about 1 hour 20 minutes, it takes about a half hour getting us acquainted with the characters and such but once it gets going the action never stops till the pulse-pounding climax.
Production wise the film looks and sounds fantastic, the warehouse is the perfect setting for the story because it provides a brilliant amount of atmosphere with its many rooms and hallways. Another amazing thing about the film is its cast. I am not going to point out any one actor here because everyone in the film did an amazing job including, Norbert Velez, Aniela McGuinness, Todd Bruno, Gema Calero, Giordan Diaz, Tom Stedham, Daniela Larez, Reggie Peters, Dennis Spain, Mario Nalini, Massiel Checo and Brandi Rudicil.
To talk too much about the story and what happens in the film would only ruin all the fun that awaits everyone but I can tell you that "HazMat is lethal entertainment full of tension, suspense and non-stop action with some very cool kills and plenty of blood. A non-stop thrill ride with one of the most menacing villains I have seen in some time. "Hazmat" is the new horror icon. If you like horror you need to see this film when it comes out on March 11th, 2014. I recommend checking out the film's Facebook page located HERE. The film will be available coming to VOD March 11 and DVD April 1. You can Pre-order the VOD over at itunes HERE. Congrats to Director, Lou Simon and her entire cast and crew for making such a kick-ass horror film.
