Cast: Joel Kinnaman, Matias Padin Varela, Dragomir Mrsic
Directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), EASY MONEY is a Swedish crime thriller based on the international best-selling novel Snabba Cash by Jens Lapidus. Lower-class business student JW (Joel Kinnaman from AMC’s ‘The Killing’) falls in love with a sexy heiress while living a double life mingling with Stockholm’s wealthy elite. To keep up the facade of his lifestyle, he’s lured into a world of crime. Jorge is a petty fugitive on the run from both the police and Serbian mafia. He hopes that brokering a massive cocaine deal will allow him to escape for good. Mafia enforcer Mrado is on the hunt for Jorge, but his efforts are complicated when he’s unexpectedly saddled with caring for his young daughter. As JW’s journey ventures deeper into the dark world of organized crime, the fate of all three men becomes entangled and ends with a dramatic struggle for life and death.
"Easy Money is the second film in a planned trilogy, this like the first film was a big hit in Sweden. The film is a noir thriller that has a lot going for it. The focus of the film is on JW, a lower class student who falls for a pretty rich girl while living this double life mixing in with the elite. but sometimes acting like someone you're not can lead to trouble and that is exactly what happens when he is lured into the criminal world.
To go on about the plot would only ruin the story for those waiting to see it but I can tell you that "Easy Money is a crime thriller with plenty of twists and turns and some excellent action scenes as well. Sure the film has it's clichés but most do. As far as the acting goes the entire cast did a fantastic job including Joel Kinnaman as JW and Matias Varela as Jorge.
Director, Daniél Espinosa does a great job keeping the film moving at a nice pace while never missing any of the plot's details. This is a well-written and executed film that has everything you want in a crime thriller. If you like the genre then I recommend checking this one out. Available only on DVD with no Special Features but the film itself is worth the price. You can order it HERE.
I had a great time watching this well-crafted thriller, it keeps you glued to the screen and it leaves you completely satisfied by the time the credits begin to roll.
