The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Willa Holland, Alex Russell, Miguel Gomez, David S. Lee, Matt Riedy, Julie Dretzin
While house-sitting for the summer at a palatial spread in the Hollywood Hills, young couple Percy (Alex Russell, CHRONICLE) and Veronica (Willa Holland, GOSSIP GIRL) find themselves caught up in a love triangle that goes terribly wrong.
"Blood in the Water" tells the story of Veronica and Percy, a young couple who have been house sitting a beautiful mansion in Hollywood that has an even more beautiful view of Hollywood. It of course also has an epic swimming pool and all the other perks that go with owning such a lavish home.
The film opens with an attention grabbing scene, it shows a figure of a woman in the water and as she points you hear gunfire. The scene quickly changes but it is a major starting point for what is to come and it gets you interested. The scene switches and we see Percy and Veronica as they are getting ready to leave but there is a knock on the door and when they answer it there is a detective standing there. It seems like something bad has happened and the nosey detective wants to ask some questions even though the couple insist they told the police everything.
As the couple explain to the detective what happened the story flashes back and we get to see how Percy and Veronica got in this sticky mess. It seems a long time friend and Veronica's ex-boyfriend has come back in town looking for a few things, one is probably Veronica who he lost to Percy after going to jail and the other is to collection on a debt Percy owes him for not ratting him out when he was arrested on drug charges. Freegood's visit opens up a can of worms that the couple were not prepared for and Percy was never prepared for the favor Freegood asks of him which includes nothing but trouble.
I am not going to sit here and give away major plot details so not to ruin the film for those that are waiting to see it but I will say that this is a very entertaining crime thriller. The film doesn't really have a lot of secrets, I mean you already know someone was killed because the cops are involved as well as the detective but some things are not as they seem and some people are not whom they seem to be either so all the fun is in watching it all unfold in front of our eyes.
The film is beautiful to look at, the Hollywood hills location and the view into Hollywood is another character itself in the film and it is as gorgeous as the film's stars are. Miguel Gómez, Willa Holland and Alex Russell are all very attractive actors but they can also act very good as well and they play off each other perfectly creating just the right amount of tension as the film movies along. "Blood in the Water" is a sexy crime thriller that is well-written and directed by Ben Cummings and Orson Cummings. This is their third film together and their best to date. I liked the whole lavish setting and I also enjoyed the story that brings numerous characters into the fold which only makes it that much more entertaining and engaging.
And lastly I loved the way they wrapped the film up brought all the pieces together. I also enjoyed how they showed the behind the scenes stuff that was going on. It may not be the most complex story but it is a smart one and it is one I recommend seeing when it opens in Theaters and on VOD August 26. If you like a good crime thriller then be sure to go check it out.
