Jack Fox, a burnt out detective, is being forced into early retirement, as the worst serial killer since the Boston Strangler begins a killing spree through the streets of Salem. When detective Steve Ryan moves to town with his family, Jack is torn between a life of retirement and sanity or helping rookie detective Ryan in his quest to solve these killings that are haunting the people of Salem.
"Beg" tells the story of a detective, Jack Fox who has worked at the department for many years and his boss thinks it is time for him to consider retiring but Jack really wants to find a serial killer that is terrorizing the town before he hangs it up for good. The film gets its name from the killer who makes his victims beg for their lives before killing them.
"Beg" was done on a very low budget but it makes up for it in several ways. One is the story which is intelligent enough to keep you glued to the screen, wanting to constantly know more. The story offers up a suspect early on but it never gives away its secrets until later in the film. This keeps you engaged the entire time and when the film reveals its secrets you will be both shocked and blown away. Writer/Director, Kevin MacDonald is at the top of his game with this one. He was written a horror film that is exciting and intelligent at the same time. There is a nice back story going on, there are also some hot chicks, lots of killings and one of the coolest looking villains I have seen.
And then there is something else MacDonald pulled off, he was able to assemble one of the best casts I have ever seen in a horror film. For starters you have the original Michael Myers himself, Tony Moran who is fantastic as detective Jack Fox, but the fun does not end there. The film also stars, PJ Soles, Debbie Rochon, Kristina Klebe, Tiffany Shepis, Tony Todd, Michael Berryman, Brandon Stumpf and Ally Tully. That is a cast to die for.
Like any other Indie horror film "Beg" is not without a few issues. If I had to bring up just one I would say that it could have used a bit more up close and personal kills rather than off camera ones but in the end it really did not affect the overall film at all.
"Beg" is a film all horror fans are going to want to own and you do not have to wait much longer. The DVD will be released on August 25th from Itn Distribution. You can pre-order it HERE.
"Beg" is a great addition to the horror scene. It is sure to gain a large following through strong word of mouth.
