In this high-action mockbuster, a space craft appears over Los Angeles to threaten its citizens 70 years after a failed alien invasion. Facing off against the extraterrestrial threat is Karla (Nia Peeples), who commands a team of alien-fighting commandos. Kel Mitchell stars as a reluctant Air National Guardsman who joins the fight for humanity's survival.
Between the reviews this film has gotten and the reviews the theatrical film "Battle: Los Angeles" has gotten it's no wonder Hollywood continues to remake films, create sequels and rehash old story-lines because as long as people keep going to the theater it will never stop. I am not here to give my review for the theatrical release so I will let that dog lie but I am here to give my thoughts on the newest film from from The Asylum, "Battle of Los Angeles." The film aired on the Syfy channel before coming to DVD and it fit right in with what they are doing, this "version" of the film has some good things going for it and like any film it also has it's flaws. For starters the film never takes itself too serious which is not only important but it makes it that much more entertaining. The effects are on the lines of any other low-budget film that is dependent on special effects, the effects range from bad at times to pretty damn nice considering the budget here. Another plus is the characters, there's a mixed bag of them here and some are really cool like the WW2 pilot on shows up in modern time, a chick with a katana that slices the flying machines and even a giant alien creature. The film reminded me of those cheesy B-movies from the 50's and it was just as much fun. One thing I love about The Asylum is that they always bring in a cast that was popular at one time or another, in the past it has been music stars, movie stars and television stars and this one is no different. How can you not love seeing Kel Mitchell and Nia Peeples in the same movie, brilliant I tell ya. With all that being said I cannot understand why so many people just don't "get" it after all this time, get over it or stop watching already because it's getting old. I happened to see the theatrical film as well and I got to say I had a much better time watching this one.
As for the flaws I think the film could of had a little better pace to it at times but for the most part The Asylum did not disappoint, it was everything I expected plus the few twists were unexpected and welcomed. If you have enjoyed their film's in the past then I recommend picking this up. The DVD comes with Special Features that include:
