The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Katia Winter, Michael McMillian, Ted Levine
THE BANSHEE CHAPTER centers on a young, female journalist (Winter) who follows the mysterious trail of a missing friend (McMillian) that had been experimenting with mind-altering chemicals developed in secret government drug tests. Levine plays the role of a rogue counter-culture novelist with a penchant for substance abuse and firearms who leads the journalist into the mystery of dangerous chemical research. A fast-paced blend of fact and fiction, the film is based on real documents, actual test subject testimony, and uncovered secrets about covert programs run by the CIA.
"Banshee Chapter" is one of those films where the less you know about it the better so I am not going to go into major plot details here, what is already written above is about all you need to know before watching it.
What I can tell you is Director, Blair Erickson did a fantastic job blending a mystery/thriller with some jump scares. The look and feel of the film adds plenty of atmosphere as well to proceedings. The thought of the CIA performing such experiment on people without the Governments knowledge is frightening enough but toss in some scares with the story and you end up with a pretty entertaining, original film.
I already mentioned about the film's look at I will say again that I enjoyed the cinematography and the sound was excellent as well. Another thing that made the film so good besides the story was the acting, everyone in the film did a fantastic job but I must mention Katia Winter who gives a fantastic and realistic performance as the young journalist hell bent on finding out what happened to her friend and Ted Levine is also excellent as usual as the writer who becomes entangled in the mystery as well.
"The Banshee Chapter" is an entertaining thriller that gets in your head and under your skin in a hurry and stays with you long after it is over. I recommend this to thriller and horror fans alike, this is one of the better films in either genre I have seen in some time.
