The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Do you have what it takes to solve the mystery? In 1931, Harold Lasseter's body was found in the Central Australian desert. His diary revealed he'd discovered gold -- worth billions of dollars today -- be he'd give it all away for a loaf of bread and a chance at survival. The gold has never been found. Filmmaker Luke Walker finds Lasseter's 85 year-old son still wandering the desert trying to find the gold that killed his father. Is it still possible to piece together the fragments of history Lasseter left behind? Armed with a camera, Walker chases his footsteps in hopes of unraveling the tangle of myths, lies and legend that remain buried with Lasseter's bones. But as he follows his last few steps he finds himself closer to the gold than anyone has been for 80 years. Do you dare join the adventure and take part in the quest for Australia's Lost Gold?
"Australia's Lost Gold: The Legend of Lasseter" tells the story of Harold Lasseter who swore up and down he found gold in the Australian desert. That is according to a diary he kept while searching for the reef of gold. The diary was later found with Harold's body because he never made it out of the desert alive.
Lasseter's son, Bob was only a little boy when Harold left home in search of the gold and today at 85 years-old he still searches the desert for the reef his father described in his diary. The story caught the eye of Filmmaker Luke Walker and he contacted Lassester's son about retracing his father's footsteps and perhaps finding that lost gold everyone has talked about since Harold passed away.
"Australia's Lost Gold: The Legend of Lasseter" is a fascinating documentary from Writer/Director, Luke Walker who does an amazing job telling the Lasseter story and finding out every little thing he could about the journey and also the man behind the journey. Walker digs deep to find as much truth behind Lasseter's story as he possibly can and let me just say there is always more than one side to every story.
I was taken in by not only Lasseter's story but by the story of his son, Bob as well who at 85 years-old still goes into the harsh desert in search of his father's lost gold. His commitment and drive for all these years is astounding. Does Walker find the gold Lasseter's son has been searching for all these years? Well I am not going to give away any of the film's secrets but I will say that "Australia's Lost Gold: The Legend of Lasseter" is a captivating, stimulating and thought-provoking journey that deserves to be seen by the masses. If you like a good documentary then you owe it to yourself to check out this incredible story.
