After being released from prison, Morgan Edwards is striving for change and searching for a new life. Desperate for connection, he accompanies three strangers into the woods, and is forced to confront the demons of his past. When it is revealed that his new-found friends are connected to his alleged crimes, redemption becomes secondary to survival.
"A Proper Violence" is about one man looking to forget his past and move on with his life and someone else who isn't going to let it go that fast. This is one those movies that the more you talk about the plot the more you are going to ruin to film for anyone that hasn't seen it yet. I am not going to go into major details here because I think what is written above is pretty much all you should know about this gritty crime drama going into it. The film's gritty look and artsy camera work really help in creating the right mood and atmosphere and they fit the story very well.
The story is drawn out, slowly giving the audience a piece of what is going on and in doing so it builds on tension and suspense, the longer the film goes on the closer you get to the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed the story, it was engaging and the characters were all well developed which gives the audience something to invest in later on. You really believe Morgan has remorse for his actions and wants to be a changed man but it seems his past is not going to let that happen which leads to some very intense and dramatic scenes carried out by the terrific cast Director, Chris Faulisi assembled here.
"A Proper Violence" is an intelligent film that is just about flawless, the story-telling is brilliant and the direction is just as amazing. The cast which includes, Randy Spence, Justin Morck, Shawn Mahoney, Will Brunson and Bev Lauchner are all terrific and bring emotion and realism to their characters. This is a crime drama that grabs your attention from it's opening frames and it doesn't let you go till the very end, plus it offers a some food for thought as well and it leaves you thinking if these characters could of made better decisions.
"A Proper Violence" is a film we seldom see anymore, it packs a lot of emotion into it's solid story, it also has characters that are easy to relate to and care about in one way or another. On top of all of that it brings drama, suspense and just the right amount of action to make it one of the best films of the year. The story will have you at the edge of your seat the entire time and it will leave you thinking about what happened long after it is over.
