'Along Came the Devil' tells the story of Ashley who was abused as a little girl by her father after the sudden disappearance of her mother. Now as a teenager she is sent to live with her Aunt in her old hometown. Ashley's hopes of a normal life get cut short when she starts to hear and see strange things, her mother being one of them. You wonder if it is her mother who is attempting to contact Ashley or is there some thing more sinister at play here. It doesn't take long for the audience to find out what is really going on with Ashley and her strange visions and even stranger behavior.
There are a ton of possession films out there and it is hit or miss when it comes to finding a good one. 'Along Came the Devil' is definitely a hit. Right from the start you are drawn into Ashley's life and you immediately care about her. Ashley's story is a simple one but it is extremely well told thanks to Director, Jason DeVan (Broken Souls, Mindless) who co-wrote the script with Heather DeVan (The Girl, Mindless) and Dylan Matlock (Comedy Central's "Review," Ouija House). Jason does a fantastic job telling the story well creating loads of tension and suspense as the film moves along.
Another thing that made the film so good was the cast, Sydney Sweeney gives an amazing performance playing the young Ashley. She really handles the psychically demanding role perfectly. The rest of the cast was terrific as well including, Jessica Barth, Matt Dallas and the always exceptional Bruce Davison who brings star power to the film.
'Along Came the Devil' was inspired by true events and it is one of the best possession type horror films I have seen in some time. It is an engaging and frightening film that will have you at the edge of your seat the entire final act and it has one hell of an ending that you will not see coming. If you like horror then I highly recommend this gem of an Indie film. You are going to be as impressed as I was.
Gravitas Ventures will release the supernatural horror film ALONG CAME THE DEVIL in theaters, On Demand and Digital HD on August 10, 2018.
