The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Ryan K Scott, Jeannette Sousa, Joaquim de Almeida, Vik Sahay, Nelly Furtado
A struggling writer (Scott) meets a superstitious Portuguese beauty (Sousa), with no idea that his life and luck are both about to change… if only the two of them can overcome their families’ cultural differences… “A Date with Miss Fortune” is a vibrant, romantic and laugh-out-loud story about passion, destiny, and modern cross-cultural relationships.
"A Date with Miss Fortune" tells the story of Jack, a down on his lucky sitcom writer who is ready to leave his U.S. hometown for London where he was offered a job and a new start at life but when he asks Maria to pose as his girlfriend after running into his ex the two hit it off and sit in the diner the entire night getting to know more about each other. But the new couple run into some problems with their cultural differences as well as their own personal behaviors. Can the two work it all out in order to save what they have?
"A Date with Miss Fortune" has been compared to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and I understand the comparisons but this film brings a lot of it's own ideas to the table as well as it's own unique story. One reason the film works so well is because it stars the real life couple, Jeannette Sousa and Ryan Scott and they wrote the script together as well. I can only imagine the fun they had working on this film together. Ryan is fantastic as Jack, he is charming, funny and good looking and Jeannette is amazing as Maria, she is beautiful sweet and funny. There is no surprise that the two have great chemistry on screen as well but I think it really made the film better since the two are married in real life. The film's supporting cast were all great as well including, Joaquim de Almeida who play's Maria's father in the film.
Jack's struggle winning over Maria's Portuguese family is a delight to watch, the film is full of laughs, romance and even some tender, more dramatic moments as well. "A Date with Miss Fortune" is a great film for couples, this is not just some "chick flick," there are plenty of things the guys will like about it as well. The film will be in select theaters on February 5th, and on DVD and VOD February 9th 2016. I highly recommend it to everyone. Sometimes in life things happen from choices we make, sometimes it is just fate and other times it is just fortune. For Jack and Maria it might have been all three, regardless this is a feel good story that will have you laughing out loud, shedding a few tears and it will leave you with a big smile on your face as you run to tell all your friends and family about it.
