Like every little girl, Erica Moses had big dreams for the future…but life had other plans for her. After failed relationships, addiction and homelessness, Erica hits rock bottom when she faces a young mother’s ultimate nightmare: the loss of her child. With nowhere left to turn, she finds herself on the doorstep of a very special house. At this home, women can find shelter, a helping hand and, just maybe, a second chance. Now, facing her most difficult journey, Erica reaches for hope to overcome her past, open her heart to love and build a new life.
"A Cross to Bear" tells the story of Erica, a dancer who finds herself living on the street with her newborn after her boyfriend dumps her. With no family she struggles to find a place to sleep for her baby and herself on a daily basis. Just when things could not get worse for Erica a tragedy happens when her baby is killed by accident by another homeless person. Finally hitting rock bottom Erica finds herself at the doorstep on Joan's house. Joan uses her place to help women like Erica get back on their feet again. Erica struggles at first but with the love and help from Joan and other women who have been through it all she finds peace with in herself and the ability to forge on and create a new life.
I am not going to go in to anymore plot details here because I do not want to ruin the film for those that are waiting to see it but I can tell you that no matter what your faith is the film is sure to touch your heart. Be sure to have tissues beside you while watching this film because you will be needing them not only for the moments of heartbreak but for the moments of hope and inspiration as well.
The film not only has a terrific, emotionally charged story but it also has a cast that truly delivers on the characters. The entire cast did a fantastic job in the film but I would like to say that I was very impressed by Danielle Deadwyler, Jackie Long, Kim Fields and Malinda Williams. This was definitely an ensemble piece and everyone really brought their characters to life.
I was immediately engaged in the story of Erica and by the time the film ended I felt emotionally drained by her story and whoever watches it will be too but do not worry I meant that in a good way.
So, if you like a good drama that gets you involved then I likely recommend checking out "A Cross to Bear." It will have you in tears but in the end you just might crack a big smile as well. Available on DVD with Special Features that include:
