The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Mike Stanley, Aniela McGuinness, Todd Bruno, Katie Carpenter, Jim Adams
A man and a woman kidnap her rapist in order to extract a confession, but how far are they willing to go for justice and what if they're wrong?
'3: An Eye for an Eye' tells the story of a man and woman who meant at the same psychiatrist office. She is there because she was raped by a man, a man that has gotten a way with it up until now because the police say there is no real evidence. He is there because of the PTSD he suffers from being at war. It on the other hand is the doctor whom she says raped her. So together He and She kidnap the doctor in an attempt to finally get a confession from him no matter the cost.
This is a tough film to talk about because I do not want to spoil it for anyone that is waiting and wanting to see it. So first let me talk a little about Director, Lou Simon. This is Lou's fifth film as Writer/Director and I have had the pleasure of reviewing all five starting with her first film, 'The Awakened' back in 2012. From then on her films just got better leading up to this one which I think is her best to date. It isn't often but it is special when I get to follow a film makers career so close and actually witness their maturity with each and every film.
'3: An Eye for an Eye' is her best film for a number of reasons. The film has three main characters, He, She and It, right from the start you are pulled into their lives and become immediately engaged in what is happening. The film does not waste a second of its run time and it is not long before you begin to suspect that there might be something else at play here. You know the basic information you have been given but you some how think there could be other motives at play.
But the film doesn't give a way it's secrets so it keeps you guessing until the very end. There are a number of twists a long the way that takes you in different directions but it always keeps you guessing on what is really going on. I already mentioned how engaging the film is but it is also full of tension, suspense and mystery. And it would not be a horror/thriller without some moments of brutality and there's plenty of that as well.
Writer/Director, Lou Simon has created a clever, well-written film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It also keeps you glued to the screen as you wait to find out more. There are five people in the film but only three main characters so when choosing her cast Lou had to make sure she got actors that could deliver and that she did. Todd Bruno is terrific as He, a man who is teetering on the edge of crazy. Aniela McGuinness is as beautiful and talented as ever as She and Mike Stanley is fantastic as It, a man who may or may not be guilty of rape. Aniela McGuinness and Todd Bruno have worked with Lou before in her other films so there is a familiarity with those two but make no mistake about it everyone is amazing in the film.
Let me finish by saying that Writer/Director, Lou Simon knocked it out of the ball park with this one. It is the kind of film that holds your interest and then it knocks your socks off with its jaw dropping ending you will never see coming. It is the kind of film that leaves you thinking about it long after it is over. '3: An Eye for an Eye' will be released August 7 on VOD so be sure to check it out. Brilliantly written and superbly acted makes this a must see for all horror fans.
