When Mickey, a homeless, struggling artist crosses paths with Katrina, the beautiful wife of a wealthy businessman and is enlisted to paint their home; deadly passions ignite. Soon hidden agendas, dangerous seductions, double and triple-crosses spiral Mickey's life out of control, leading to a motel filled with strange characters and twisted secrets that all hold the key to the mystery of Mickey's past, present and future.
"1 in The Gun" is a strange neo noir, by the time it ended I wasn't sure I enjoyed it or not but after I had a bit of time to let it soak in I figured it to be a cool little flick that is certainly different which alone is something we rarely see. The film offers up some seduction, robbery, murder and a bit of strangeness as it jumps from flashbacks to present day, from nightmares back to present day all the while filling us in on where we are and how we all got there. To talk about plot details besides what is already written above would only ruin and possibly confuse everyone here. This is certainly a busy film with lots going on, it's not a film to walk away from to go get a snack and come back because you're going to be lost upon arriving. If the film had any weakness it's in the acting, the three most popular cast members, Robert Davi, Steven Bauer and James Russo all have very small roles and limited screen time. Steven Man and the sexy Katherine Randolph are the film's two main leads and their performances are certainly good enough but not stellar.
Like I said before I wasn't sure about the film as the credits began to roll but looking back I now can say it's a clever story with some decent suspense and a nice dose of dark humor to lighten the mood a bit. I don't think this is a film for everyone simply because it's so very different but if you like a good neo noir or if you're just looking for something different to watch then I say pick it up, you will not be bored that's for sure. Plot twists, suspense and a few zany characters and situations makes "1 in The Gun" a worthwhile watch. Foul language and nudity make this an adult film so be aware.
