The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
After leaving behind a painful past to follow her dreams, Sarah scores the perfect Hollywood apartment. But something is not right. Unable to sleep, tormented by strange noises and threatening notes, her new life quickly starts to unravel. By the time she learns the horrifying truth, it's too late. Caught in a waking nightmare, Sarah must find the strength to hold onto her crumbling sanity...or be trapped forever in an existential hell.
'1BR' tells the story of Sarah, a young woman who tries to start a new in LA. First she needs to find work and a place to live which she thinks she finds in an apartment complex. At first it seems like an amazing place to live. All those that already live in the complex seem so friendly and willing to help their neighbors. But after moving in things start to get strange when she starts hearing strange noises at night but before she can move out her worst nightmares are realized.
'1BR' is a taut thriller that is driven by its terrific story and characters.
I didn't read much about the film before I sat down to watch so it would not be spoiled for me and I suggest you do the same. The less you know about the film going in the more you are going to enjoy it. Listed as a Drama, Horror, Thriller and believe me when I tell you it is all those and a lot more. This is one of my favorite films of 2020 so far.
Besides its story is which is laid out perfectly it is the cast that also delivers on the characters in a big way. Everyone in the film is terrific including, Nicole Brydon Bloom (Law and Order SVU, The Affair), Giles Matthey (Ford v Ferrari) Taylor Nichols (PEN15), Naomi Grossman (American Horror Story), Alan Blumenfeld (Heroes), Clayton Hoff (Shameless), Celeste Sully (Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart), Earnestine Phillips (Here Comes the Boom), and Susan Davis (WarGames).
At first the film is a bit of a mystery as it has you guessing on what is in store for you, is it a slasher film or maybe a supernatural thriller? All I can say is when the story reveals its secrets you will be more shocked and terrified than you could have ever expected to be.
'1BR' is a twisted, disturbing and creepy thriller that will get in your early on and it will stay there long after it is over. It had me glued to the screen the entire time and it had me rooting for Sarah the whole time. There is a perfect mix of drama and psychological and physical violence to keep you on the edge of your seat all the way to the film's amazing ending.
Before I end this review let me also state that this is the feature film, directorial debut for Writer/Director, David Marmor. I cannot wait to see what he does next.
'1BR' will be VOD 4/24/2020. I highly recommend checking out this fantastic horror/thriller.
